Nomadic Allotments

As part of the London Festival of Architecture 2010 Cardiff University Students will be building nomadic allotments for Borough market and the Banskside area.

Along side Dr. Cristian Suau, Rachael is running a month long workshop at the Welsh School of Architecture as part of their Vertical Studio programme which is intended to broaden the students’ experience in research and design. The learning outcomes are intentionally broad and require students to engage critically with an aspect of research in the field of architectural studies.

Rachael and Cristian have put together a brief to encourage the fabrication of innovative and low-budget deployable structures which will be used as allotments for Borough Market. They are required to be It has to be as versatile, lightweight, cheap and portable as possible. The final structure will be designed in Cardiff by the guidelines and supervision of Cristian and Rachael and built in London between 22nd and 30th May 2010. The allotments will be launched officially on the 4th July 2010 as part of the London Festival of Architecture 2010 and provide the feature for Borough Market’s pop up Food Exchange.
